More “oopsies”

More tidbits of information:

1. Dr. Dassau will be on the Cynthia Georgiana radio program tomorrow morning from 9am until 11. If you want to hear it from the “horse’s mouth” and hear not only about the good things that are going on in the district but also the truth about the contract, that’s a pretty good time to call in. The number is 357–1290. It’s broadcast on FM 104.1 and AM 1290. It’s worth a phone call.

2. According to the business manager of the district¹—the person who is paid to run the figures—the average cost of the teacher’s contract on a $200,000 home is 32¢ per day. Yeah—less than $10.00 a month:

Incremental Cost on $200,000 Home*

* Fitzwilliam: $92/yr, $7.66/mo, 25¢/day
* Gilsum: $114/yr, $9.5/mo, 31¢/day
* Richmond: $118/yr, $9.83/mo, 32¢/day
* Roxbury: $60/yr, $5/mo, 16¢/day
* Sullivan: $128/yr, $10.6/mo, 35¢/day
* Swanzey: $136/yr, $11.33/mo, 37¢/day
* Troy: $154/yr, $12.83/mo, 42¢/day
* Cross District Average: $118/yr, $9.80/mo, .32¢/day

3. If you needed more proof that the Monadnock Taxpayer’s Association is full of mistakes, lies, and deceptions, check out this site. Note that it’s from the School Board—the whole school board voted to support this and try and get the information out. The elected representatives of the district recognize there are liars among them. Neat.

In a nutshell, it says that the Monadnock Taxpayer’s Association is over $600 off their quote for the cost of the teacher’s contract. They’ve more than tripled the cost.

Hmm. First there’s the “accidental” insertion of a provision in the contract, and now I’m sure there’s the “accidental” moving of a decimal point.

Of course, the net effect of all these “mistakes” “typos” and “oopsies” is that the public is misled. But hey, why should they know the truth?

    I believe the Monadnock Taxpayer’s Association is trying to set up a breeding ground for the most dreadful of viruses, the true “weapon of mass destruction” in our world, ignorance. View the Bush administration and tell me ignorance never hurt anyone. We need to support our schools, if we are to have any glimmer of hope for our future. The downhill slide for MRHS just seems to get faster and more dizzying each year.
    The yellow flyer I received in my PO box the other day tried to tell me that the situation isn’t an emergency. They also asked me what my benefits are at my job, and if I thought teachers deserved full covereage insurance. Those are the people taking care of our children, everyone should want them to be healthy. A workplace with a marvelous benefits package will draw qualified, enthusiastic employees. Does my job cover 100%? No, and I hate it. The healthcare crisis is one of the worst in the country, and we should do what we can to avoid compounding that problem. Anyone who believes the situation at the high school is anything less than urgent hasn’t been in there. They haven’t seen the buckets in the halls from leaky pipes, they don’t know how the last few months of the school year there isn’t any graph paper left, or how barely any of the science labs have modern equipment or computers. That’s the part they don’t see.
    The Taxpayer’s Association is scared people won’t visit their businesses anymore if they reveal their identities, yet in the same breath want to play the destitute card? Please. If you’re truly so poor you can’t afford the cents per day that this would amount to, you don’t own your own business. Perhaps it’s more along the lines of they don’t have children, or their children have already gone through the system, and they feel like they don’t need to pay for some other guy’s kids education. Well then, why should I have to pay for your social security? Why should my hard earned money go towards your medicare? Someone paid for your education, and your children’s education, why should today’s kids be left in the dark?
    This is not just a small issue, concerning only that contract and the cents it will add to your daily tab of spendatures. This is far greater than that; it is ruining the housing market around here, no family wants to move to a town with a school system in shambles. No teacher in their right mind would want to come from elsewhere to teach here, why should they? The Taxpayer’s Association pushes them away. The worst part is that it affects a group of people, yes PEOPLE, who have no choice in the matter, the students. These people will be your caretakers, your cashiers, your doctors, lawyers, busdrivers and firefighters. They’ll be your coworkers, perhaps even your BOSS, Taxpayer’s Association. And when they are, I hope they lower your insurance, and pay you less than you deserve. Blissful, indeed.
